A Proud Poem<\/h1>\n

Disclaimer: Pesem je nastala kot spontan odziv avtorice_ja na nedavne izku\u0161nje z mariborske parade ponosa, ki je potekala v soboto, 29. 6., kot prva parada ponosa v Mariboru. Pesem ne predstavlja in ne \u017eeli predstavljati mnenja in izku\u0161enj vseh LGBTIQ posameznic_kov ali skupin. Prav tako avtor_ica pri sebi priznava mo\u017enost med seboj nasprotujo\u010dih si ob\u010dutkov glede izku\u0161enj, ki torej niso samo negativni ali pozitivni. Vesel_a je, da se je pride zgodil in zdi se ji_mu pomemben mejnik. Bil_a pa bi \u0161e bolj vesel_a, \u010de bi se o tem in drugih pojavih lahko pogovarjale_i in razmi\u0161ljale_i skupaj in ne samo preko reakcij na spletu.<\/p>\n

Disclaimer: The poem is a spontaneous reaction of its author’s experience of Maribor pride parade that took place on June 29th and was the first ever pride in Maribor. The poem does not and does not wish to represent opinions of all LGBTIQ individuals or groups. The author acknowledges the possibility to have different, sometimes even opposing feelings about an experience \u2013 that are not exclusively positive or negative. They are very happy that Maribor pride happened and see it as an important milestone for Slovenia and Slovenian LGBTIQ communities. They would also be very glad to have important conversations, such as how to react to violence at pride parades, that go beyond comments on social media.<\/p>\n

A Proud Poem<\/strong><\/p>\n

Love is love is love.
\nBut what is Pride
\nif not a manifestation,
\na cry for freedom
\nand by freedom I mean
\nthe right of every one of us
\nto be and live as
\nwho we are?
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

I don’t know why you’re here at Pride,
\nbut I sure as hell did not come here
\njust to swallow mine
\nor to smile at people
\nor look away
\nor to convince myself that
\nthis
\nis
\nIt.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ignoring hate and humiliation
\nto appeal to
\npassers-by and
\nNeonazis
\nis not how I imagine Pride.<\/em><\/p>\n

I’ll admit I did not come
\nto hug or empathize
\nwith people who will euthanize
\nthe truth that is
\nmy family
\nby spewing hate across
\nthe square of Liberty
\nor – to ignore them,
\nfor that matter,
\nfor I know better
\nthan to allow
\nthe spatter of their putrid words
\nto echo so loud
\nI cannot hear the speakers
\ntalking about Pride.<\/em><\/p>\n

I don’t know what pride is for you
\nif not a NO
\nto hate and their wish to humiliate
\nA<\/em>re rainbows and balloons
\n<\/em>where your pride begins and ends?
\nCos’ I can see then how you
\nmight not understand
\nthat pride for me
\nand for my family
\nis something else entirely.<\/em><\/p>\n

What happened to Pride
\nthat\u2019s a reaction to oppression
\nis that not why you\u2019re here?<\/em><\/p>\n

And did you care to ask
\nthe activist on stage
\nwho left accompanied by cops –
\nif he’s ok?
\nOr did you just think
\nWow so brave
\nand fab
\nbut then forgot
\nin reality
\nPride means solidarity
\nand what is solidarity
\nif not reacting in some shape or form?<\/em><\/p>\n

None of us are perfect
\nI’ll give you that,
\nI’m sure we all just do our best
\nbut I have to say
\nbeing censored by this crowd
\nhurt more than any
\nhate from the outside.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is truly nice
\nthat you felt great
\ncos’ pride is our holiday
\nbut my Pride
\nwas attacked from beginning
\ntill the end
\nalso by you not doing anything.<\/em><\/p>\n

I’m sorry if I wasn’t able
\nto enjoy
\nthe rainbows and the Pride
\nI had to be
\nwith my family
\nthat got harassed
\n<\/em>again and
\nagain and
\nagain.<\/em><\/p>\n

So think again
\nwhen you feel
\nlike the only thing
\nyou have to offer
\nis feedback on our work
\n<\/em>our looks
\nand our way
\n<\/em>to counter hate
\nfor there is no Pride
\nwhen some of us are left behind.<\/em><\/p>\n

Yes, we are all different
\nand that’s allright,
\nthere’s space for all of us at Pride,
\nbut don’t you try
\nto silence
\nthis family of mine.<\/em><\/p>\n

Never try to silence
\nanyone who came to Pride
\nto be true
\nand real
\nand proud
\n– f<\/em>or that is not pride.<\/em><\/p>\n
